Oxfordshire Artweeks artists in Lawrence Home Nursing Team fundraiser

AS the Oxfordshire Artweeks Virtual Festival heads into week 2, a group of eleven artists who had planned to exhibit together in Great Tew are instead coming together to sell a series of donated pieces of art to help raise funds for a very deserving local charity in a one-day sale next Sunday, 17th. Chipping Norton’s Lawrence Home Nursing provide people with end of life nursing care in their own home.

“We had planned to donate the proceeds of tea and cakes at the exhibition and so we were sorry not to be able to do that. We wanted then to find an alternative way to support them, particularly as all charities are struggling at the moment and they are also facing the additional complications of covid-19 as they continue with their amazing work. This is our alternative way of helping their cause in these difficult times,” explains ceramicist Penny Varley, one of the artists involved.

“We’ll be showcasing each of the pieces throughout the week on social media ahead of an on-line sale on Sunday 17th May when contact details for all the participating artists will be promoted alongside the piece of work [at www.facebook.com/artsinthecotswolds/].

Prices range from £25 to £260 but they will remain secret until the day of the sale to create anticipation and excitement for the day of the sale. We’re hoping to build a buzz: we all know what it’s like when you’ve  seen something that you like and you want to get in first!” adds Melanie Charles who has donated a painting of a friendly cow, Oscar, who peers from the canvas with a wet-nosed charm.

Other pieces include a sweeping Scottish view under a soft blue sky, an intimate stitched landscape on silk, a turned oak bowl, a blue leather journal with accents of copper and gold, a sterling silver necklace with gemstones, and an unusual ceramic vessel in rich ruby red. You can see all the pieces on sale here https://youtu.be/aVD0sJfrhVY

The sale will open at 10am (until 4pm) and potential customers should contact the artist directly to arrange payment and delivery.
