David Best runs the Great South Run in aid of Lawrence Home Nursing Team

Well, I ran 10 miles, and how does it feel? Good.

It was a relief to complete the course as sponsors have been so generous. I was not looking to break any records and I didn’t, but my finish time of 1 hour 44 minutes and 9 seconds was a Personal Best as I have never run 10 miles before! My speed was consistent round the course, but I pushed it for the last two miles as one of my sponsors said they would double their donation if I completed the run in under 1 hour 35 minutes.

I am extremely grateful to Millie White who joined me on the run and helped me with training. Millie set a perfect pace for me for the first 5 miles. It is difficult to judge how fast you should run if you have never run that distance before.

So, what next? Well, on the way home from Portsmouth we passed one of the special boats that are used to row the Atlantic from the Canary Islands to Antigua. I asked Millie if she would join me for that, but it was a definite no, so I will have to think again!
